ADR
Certification of vehicles for use under international arrangements for carriage of dangerous goods.
Category C1 (Class 3)
LGV driving license for vehicles between 3.5t and 7.5t (minimum age: 18).
Category C1+E
LGV driving license for vehicles between 3.5t and 7.5t with small trailers (minimum age: 21)
Category C (Class 2)
LGV driving license for vehicles over 7.5t (minimum age: 21).
Category C+E (Class 1)
LGV driving license for vehicles over 7.5t with large trailers (minimum age: 21).
CPC
Certificate of Professional Competence - a Department of Transport recognised qualification designed to show that the individual has attained a set level of knowledge in road haulage (every haulage operator needs at least one person with one of these to get their O License).

Freight Transport Association
HGV
Heavy Goods Vehicle - the old (and still popular) term for large goods vehicle (LGV).
LGV
Large Goods Vehicle - a lorry with a maximum allowed mass (MAM) over 3.5 tonnes.
OD
Owner/driver - an individual who owns and drives their own vehicle.
O Licence
Operator Licence - a license that road haulage operators are required to have.
RPC
Reduced Pollution Certificate
Subbie
Subcontractor - a haulage operator who is doing work for another haulage operator rather than directly for a customer.
Tachograph
A combined clock and speedometer that records the vehicle's speed and the length of time that it is moving or stationary.
TIR
Transport International Routier - certification for vehicles carrying goods sealed for customs purposes.
VED
Vehicle Excise Duty, more commonly known as road tax.
VOSA
The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency - government agency responsible for making sure vehicles are roadworthy and operators and drivers are compliant with the standards.
WTD
Working Time Directive - regulations about how long a driver can work for.
